Monash Directions 2025
A message from Professor Richard Larkins, AO, Vice-Chancellor:
I am pleased to introduce you to two important documents which will shape the future of Monash University for many years to come.
Excellence and Diversity - Strategic Framework 2004-2008 was approved by the University Council in May 2004. It sets out the university's statement of purpose and core values. It also suggests some of the key ways in which these values will be applied in our daily work.
Monash Directions 2025 is a 20-year strategic directions statement which was approved by the University Council in February 2005. It replaces Leading the Way -- Monash 2020 and The Global Development Framework. Monash Directions 2025 picks up the statement of purpose from Excellence and Diversity, with minor textual revisions, and reiterates the set of core values. It then describes in a broad way the aims of the university over the next 20 years. In particular, it records the university's aspiration that by 2025 we will be one of the best universities in the world. We will achieve this in our own distinctive way through a research-intensive, international focus. We will address the important theoretical and practical challenges which the world is facing and we will develop graduates who will wish to do the same.
These two documents will guide the preparation of five-year plans covering research, teaching and learning, courses and curriculum, and international focus.
Monash University graduated its first students a little over 40 years ago and it has become one of the leading universities in Australia, with a growing international reputation. We now move into an exciting phase when we will build upon these achievements and create a world-class university committed to improving the human condition by advancing knowledge and fostering creativity.
