Professor Stephanie Fahey - Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement)

Professor Stephanie Fahey is responsible for setting the University's strategic direction across:

  • international engagement
  • marketing and communications
  • student recruitment.

Professional background

After holding positions at several Australian universities, Professor Fahey came to Monash in 2006.

Her prior roles include Director of the Research Institute for Asia Pacific, and Acting Assistant Pro Vice-Chancellor (International - Asia Pacific) at the University of Sydney.

Professor Fahey holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Sydney, and a PhD from the Australian National University.

Professor Fahey has been appointed to many influential government boards, non-governmental organisation boards and business councils, including:

  • the Foreign Affairs Council
  • the National Board of the Australia China Business Council
  • the Australia Korea Foundation
  • the European Australia Business Council
  • a subcommittee of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Committee that looks at Australia's engagement with China and India.

Academic interests

Professor Fahey's academic interests include:

  • transitional economies: in PNG the transition from subsistence to a cash economy and in Vietnam from a command economy to a market-led economy
  • the use of the internet as a form of expression and international development among youth in North East Asia.
