The team behind this work

Digital accessibility at Monash is led by the Digital Experience and Inclusion (DEI) team in eSolutions. We specialise in accessibility and inclusive design, working across the University to ensure that our digital products, websites, PDFs, mobile apps and online services are accessible and inclusive for all users.

We work closely with designers, developers and content creators to:

• Embed inclusive design thinking from the outset of each project
• Conduct regular accessibility audits and user testing with people with lived experience of disability
• Advocate for user-centred design where the diverse needs of our entire audience are prioritised
• Provide guidance, training and resources to teams across Monash.

Our commitment

In alignment with Monash's Equal Opportunity and Disability Inclusion Policy and our Impact 2030 commitment to building an inclusive community, we actively work to identify and eliminate digital barriers across our global web presence.

We adhere to the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standards. Accessibility is embedded into our design systems, web templates and development workflows from the start, not added as an afterthought.

How we design for accessibility

Our websites and digital products are built with the following inclusive design practices:

Keyboard navigation
Our websites can be navigated using a keyboard or alternative input device so no mouse is required.

Screen reader and assistive technology support
Pages are built using semantic HTML, structured headings and descriptive text alternatives for meaningful visual content that ensures compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies.

Visual clarity
Text and interactive elements maintain strong colour contrast. Layouts support zoom and text resizing without loss of content or functionality.

Clear structure and orientation
Dedicated 'skip to main content' links and consistent global navigation help you move through pages efficiently and confidently.

Support and resources

Assistive Technology
Monash provides assistive technology software, including screen readers, screen magnification and text-to-speech tools, across campus computers and in dedicated adaptive technology rooms.
