Course or campus transfer
Already applied for a course or campus transfer?
To find out what happens next, check the section, after you apply.
You can apply for an internal transfer if you want to transfer:
- from one Monash coursework degree to another
- your course to a different Monash campus
- from a single degree to a double degree
- from a double degree to another double degree
- from a double degree to a single degree that is different from the degrees you’re currently studying.
If you’re a double degree student looking to graduate from only one of your degrees, see graduating with an alternative exit.
You must be a current Monash University student when applying for a transfer. You can only transfer between the same course type (e.g. from one bachelor degree to another bachelor degree) and only if you haven't completed your course. If you're completing your current course and wish to enrol in another, you'll need to apply as instructed on our find a course page.
Masters by research or doctoral degree students should contact their faculty or Graduate Research about transfers.
Transfer eligibility
Transferring course or campus is part of a competitive selection process. This means that you'll be competing with other students for a place in the course.
The minimum eligibility requirements for a course transfer are:
- being a current Monash student (you must maintain your enrolment)
- meeting the prerequisites for the new course
- performing at an appropriate level in your current course
- successful completion of at least 12 credit points of a Monash University course
- meeting prerequisites for both single degree courses if applying to transfer from a single to a double degree.
The actual requirements for transfer may be higher.
These are set by the faculty managing the course, including the number of completed credit points required to be considered for a transfer. Once applications open, check the course transfer requirements carefully before submitting your application for a transfer.
Credit for previous studies
If successful, you may be eligible for credit. Credit is awarded only if your previous studies are relevant to the new course.
You don’t need to submit a separate credit application through the portal – you’ll be assessed for credit at the time of your transfer.

- Don't forget to upload supporting documents with your application.
When your application is in DRAFT, you can:

Changing preferences
To change your preferences after submitting your application, message Monash Connect to reset it to draft. You can then update your preferences and resubmit the application before the deadline.
If you don’t resubmit your course transfer application by the deadline, it won’t be considered.
The last day to request to change preferences is:
- Friday 10 April at 11.59pm (Melbourne time) for students in Malaysia
- Tuesday 2 June at 11.59pm (Melbourne time) for students in Australia.
If you submit your request to change preferences after this time, it won’t be considered.
To add documents to your application after submitting it, message Monash Connect. We’ll forward your documents to the faculty to be added to your application.
Make your application
After you apply
While you're waiting for the outcome of your application, you need to:
- stay enrolled in your current course (and re-enrol in units for the following year during the re-enrolment period), and
- pay any course fees owing for your current enrolment.
When you log into your course transfer application to view your outcome, you may see some feedback from the faculty about your application.
If successful, you'll receive an offer for your highest eligible preference on your scheduled offer date (see offer dates in the section below).
If all your course preferences are declined (your application is unsuccessful), you may be notified of this outcome before your offer date.
If you’d like to withdraw your course transfer application (before or after the application closing date), message Monash Connect.

International students
CoE and visa
If the faculty approves your transfer application, you'll get a course offer (International Student Course Agreement).
If you’re currently enrolled in an Australian campus and transferring to another course in Australia, Monash Connect will automatically email you a new Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) so you don't need to apply for one. You won't need to tell the Department of Home Affairs that you're changing course as they can access your information in the new CoE. You may need to apply for a student visa – please check our visa requirements page for more information.
If you’re transferring to Australia from an off-shore campus, Admissions will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) which you’ll use to apply for your student visa.
Course duration and study load
Check your new course duration. If it’s longer than your previous course, you may need to apply for a student visa – for details, check extending your stay (student visas).
Keep in mind, if you’re on a student visa, you need to enrol in a full-time study load (24 credit points per semester). For more information, see study load.
Fees
Same course, different campus: Your fees will change to the new campus rate (if in a new country) according to the year you started the course.
Different course, same campus: You're considered a new (commencing) student. Your fees will be charged at the rate based on your new course start date.
For fee amounts, see the course entry on our find a course page.
Government loans
If you're eligible for HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP or SA-HELP, you need to reapply in the Web Enrolment System (WES) to access these loan schemes when transferring courses.
