Counselling for students
Counselling can help you with problems like coping with study or university life, stress, anxiety and depression, loneliness, drug and alcohol abuse and addictions, negative feelings and suicidal thoughts, relationship and family issues.
No issue is too big, or too small.
Where to get help
You can make an in-person appointment on campus with one of our counsellors, or you can request a Telehealth (video) consultation.
If you're a Monash student, your appointment will be free.
You can also get counselling help after hours.
Getting help for a friend
Listening is important when helping a friend through hard times, but sometimes they need more help than you can give.
If you’re concerned about a friend's mental health, encourage your friend to:
- book a Telehealth (video) consultation
- seek support from their family
- contact their doctor
- call the Benestar phone counselling service on 1300 788 336 (open 24/7).
Sexual harm and family violence
The counselling service has a specialist sexual harm and family violence counsellor who is available for face-to-face appointments at Clayton, or through Telehealth.
To make an appointment, call University Health Services on (03) 9905 3175.
Students can also call the Sexual Assault Crisis Line Victoria (SACL), which is a state-wide, confidential, telephone crisis counselling service for people who’ve experienced both past or recent sexual assault. SACL is the central after-hours coordination centre for all recent sexual assaults and provides immediate crisis response throughout Victoria. SACL operates outside business hours between 5pm weeknights through to 9am the next day and throughout weekends and public holidays.
