Guest Speaker - Virginia HausseggerVirginia Haussegger is an award winning journalist, author and social commentator. With more than 20 years in news broadcasting, her work has taken her around the globe - reporting for Australia's leading current affairs programs on Channel 9, the 7 Network and the ABC. Virginia's outspoken views on women and their role in contemporary society have been widely debated in Australia. Her book Wonder Woman: The myth of 'having it all' was launched by Julia Gillard at the National Press Club in 2005. Virginia currently presents ABC TV News in Canberra. She has been a weekly columnist for The Canberra Times; contributor to The Age; The Sydney Morning Herald; and The National Times. Virginia regularly addresses business and government forums on women, power and leadership. She recently chaired the Commonwealth Heads of Government discussion 'Empowering Women to Lead' at CHOGM 2011. In her capacity as Adjunct Professor with the ANZSOG Institute for Governance at the University of Canberra, Virginia has facilitated various forums examining the role of Gender in leadership, and the contribution of women to public sector excellence. Virginia is a Board member of UN Women Australia, and President of the Canberra International Film Festival. Her most recent publication 'Prospects for Women: Gender and Social Justice' is included in The Afghanistan Conflict and Australia's Role (MUP 2011).
