SECTION 11 OTHER STUDENT FEESThis section lists general fees and charges that apply to students at Monash University campuses in Australia. 11.1 Annual Amenities FeeFrom 2007 onwards there are no compulsory Amenities Fees for students enrolled at Monash University Australia (viz. courses with a location code of an Australian campus). Amenities fees are applicable for students enrolled at Monash University Malaysia. Refer http://www.monash.edu.my/ Annual Amenities Fee prior to 2007 In 2006 eligible students will be invoiced an Amenities Fee in line with Voluntary Student Unionism and transitional year legislation. The University Council sets the Annual Amenities Fee. Enrolled students are required to pay this fee in each teaching period. The Annual Amenities Fee does not confer membership of any organization of students, but rather is levied to provide for legislatively sanctioned facilities, services or activities of direct benefit to the University or students at the University, such as employment services, sports and recreations facilities and services, student social and recreational services, and student assistance including welfare.
The maximum fee for any student in any one teaching period will be the fulltime rate for the campus to which they are attached (i.e. a student with a study load in excess of 1.00 EFTSL in a teaching period will have the Amenities Fee capped at 1.00 EFTSL). 11.1.1 Off-site rate (applies from 2005 onwards)Students enrolled at a Victorian campus where 75% or more of their course is delivered at a site further than one kilometre from the boundary of the campus at which they are enrolled will pay the Off-site Annual Amenities Fee which is equal to the Off-campus rate. The Off-site rate will be available where the responsible faculty provides a list to the Fees Unit of students that qualify under the above policy (list to be forwarded prior to fee assessment of the relevant teaching period/semester). Note: Direct applications from students to the Fees Unit will not be accepted. 11.1.2 Exemptions (applies from 2005 onwards)Annual Amenities Fees will not be charged to students who undertake Study Abroad, or study at the Prato Study Centre (even if some study is undertaken concurrently in Australia). 11.1.3 Staff DiscountFull-time and part-time staff members undertaking a course of study at Monash are entitled to an annual discount of $29.00 from the relevant Annual Amenities Fee. 11.1.4 Schedule of Annual Amenities FeesFor 2006 schedule of Annual Amenities Fee please refer to Annual Amenities Fee 11.1.5 Goods and Service TaxThe Australian Tax Office does not require Monash University to apply the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the Amenities Fee. 11.1.6 Study at more than one campusStudents studying at more than one Australian Monash campus pay an Annual Amenities Fee based on their home campus and their mode of study. The total fee cannot exceed the full fee of the students’ home campus. 11.1.7 Exemptions from Annual Amenities FeeThe Annual Amenities Fee applies to all students, including those studying on a cross-institution basis with Monash as the host institution, except as described here:
11.1.8 Transfer to an overseas CampusFor students moving between Australian and overseas campus locations, see Section 9.4.5 11.2 Miscellaneous FeesThe Student and Community Services Division may charge the following fees: 11.2.1 Enrolment - Academic RecordOne copy of the academic record (also known as a transcript or academic statement) is provided free at Graduation. Unofficial copies are available free from the web. Additional formal records are available on request upon payment of a fee. 11.2.2 Enrolment - Student lettersStudents may request short letters for use as:
11.2.3 Enrolment - Late Enrolment FeeApplicable when a student has not completed re-enrolment by due date 11.2.4 Enrolment - Late Unit ChangeApplicable when a student seeks to change units, with the approval of the Faculty and upon payment of the prescribed charge a student may add a unit later than two weeks into the semester in which that unit is offered. 11.2.5 Enrolment - Late Confirmation of Enrolment DisputeApplicable when a student seeks to dispute their enrolment after the Census date and beyond the defined period to do so. 11.2.6 Enrolment - Variation to Enrolment outside the current semesterStudents have a number of opportunities each semester to check and amend their enrolment: viz. fee statement, enrolment statement, Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN), results notice, and via the Web Enrolment System for extended periods of time. This fee only applies to students who request variation of enrolment for a prior semester. 11.2.7 Enrolment - Reinstatement of Enrolment after InvalidationApplicable when a student who has been invalidated, due to outstanding fees, seeks to be reinstated. 11.2.8 Replacements - Identity Card/Parking PermitAll students receive a free ID card. A fee is applicable for replacing a lost card. Parking permits, are available upon payment of the relevant fee. A fee is applicable for replacing an existing parking permit. 11.2.9 Examinations - Interstate/Overseas Examination ChargeExam facilities are provided for all students studying on campus in Australia. Applicable when students studying at Australian campuses request to undertake their exams interstate or at an offshore location. Requests in this category are typically made when students seek to attend weddings, family emergencies or other urgent business, etc. at an overseas location during the exam period. 11.2.10 Examinations - Customised Examination ChargeMonash Examination centres have been established throughout Australia and overseas. This charge only applies when Distance Education (DE) students choose not to attend an exam centre established by Monash - where that centre is less than 150km travel from home - and where the student requests that a special exam venue be established for them. 11.2.11 Graduation - AttendanceThere is a fee associated with graduation at a ceremony, primarily to cover gown hire, catering and other associated costs. Graduation “in absentia” is free 11.2.12 Graduation - Late application to graduateApplicable when a student has not applied to graduate by the prescribed closing date. Late applications will be considered only if received one month or more prior to the scheduled date of the ceremony, and if the University is able to accommodate the late application 11.2.13 Graduation - Change of graduation modeApplicable when a student identifies a graduation mode (viz. attendance, or in absentia) but subsequently chooses, more than once, to change the mode after the closing date for application to graduate. 11.2.14 Graduation - Additional ticketsStudents who graduate in attendance receive three guest tickets as part of the attendance package. Where available, limited additional tickets can be purchased. 11.2.15 Graduation - Testamur ReplacementInitial testamur is free.
