Solar Poles Light Up Peninsula

Four solar light poles have been installed in the north car park at Peninsula campus in a further attempt to cut energy consumption.

With the panels now in operation it has been possible to reduce light fittings on existing grid-connected fixtures from 400w to 250w without reducing the level of lighting prescribed by the Australian Standard.

Facility and Services Environment Manager Brett Walters said "The outcome is a highly visible commitment to alternative technology without compromising lighting output.  “An added benefit is the elimination of the need to dig trenches in the car park to wire up the poles and the environmental impact of any associated wiring.”
