10 Ways To Green Up Your Act

1. Reduce energy usage through actions such as activating power management settings and switching off computers, lights and equipment when not in use.

2. Save water. Never leave a tap running and show your support for water saving measures.

3. Reduce paper usage through actions such as double-siding when photocopying or printing, and using once-used paper for all drafts, notes and internal documents.

4. Use durable crockery, cutlery, cups and bags to avoid unnecessary waste from non-biodegradable disposables.

5. Recycle just about everything, including paper, bottles and cans, printer cartridges, cardboard, batteries, IT and furniture.

6. Use sustainable transport. Walking, cycling, catching public transport or carpooling are all good, environmentally responsible options.

7. Use the Green Action Web site tool to report environmental problems on campus and submit suggestions and ideas.

8. Responsible purchasing. Buy socially-responsible, locally-produced, fair trade and organic products.

9. Demonstrate environmental responsibility. Help people new to Monash understand the importance of sustainable behaviour by showing them firsthand - lead by example.

10. Dress for the climate. Wear clothes that are appropriate for the weather - layer clothing so that you can add if you are cold or take off as you get warm.
