1. Gibson, G. Herbert, 1846-1921.
Southerly busters / by Ironbark ; profusely illustrated by Alfred Clint, with additional illustrations by Montagu Scott. (Sydney : John Sands, 1878)
The image from the gilt pictorial cloth cover has been used for the poster and for the cover of the catalogue. It is a Punch-style cartoon showing a series of bellows, each with a face. The effect is of a bright, fresh, light and breezy style, an important characteristic of the literary efforts in the young country.
“Ironbark” was the pen-name of George Herbert Gibson and the “southerly buster” is a strong wind blowing in to Sydney off the sea from the south.
