Map Collection

The Map collection comprises a range of materials related to spatial information. The collection provides study facilities for researchers and is supported by a Map Librarian.

Collection strengths

The collection contains maps from around the world with an emphasis on geological and topographical maps of Australia, and in particular, Victoria. There are also maps and charts of the oceans, Australian charts, atlases and gazetteers. Books and serial publications related to maps and spatial information are included in the collection. Tourist maps covering some areas of Australia and other parts of the world form a minor part of the collection.

Consult the Inventory of the Map Collection to discover material in the collection. There are also two copies of the print version available in the Map Room.

Most atlases, directories and books about mapping, cartography, GIS and related subjects, may be found using Search.

The collection grows through selection of resources by the Map Librarian and donations, in line with the Library's collection development policy.

For more information on the collection see the Maps library guide.
