The Monash CAVE2 is operated by the Monash Immersive Visualisation Platform, a Monash Technology Research Platform.

CAVE2 may be accessed in the following ways:

  • First-time visitors or prospective users should book a short introductory tour or research demonstration. Please note that a tour fee applies in some cases.

  • Engineering academic staff and HDR students may use the Monash CAVE2 (and MIVP expertise) via the Engineering Partner allocation. The current person to contact to arrange this access is Professor Murray Rudman (@ Monash).

  • CSIRO staff may access and use the Monash CAVE2 (and MIVP expertise) via the CSIRO Partner allocation. The current person to contact to arrange this access is Mr Justin Baker (@ CSIRO).

  • CAVE2 Pilot Project grants are offered from time-to-time to support seed projects seeking to assess whether the CAVE2 can transform their research practice. There are no pilot project grants available at present.

  • Monash researchers may access and use CAVE2 and MIVP expertise at the current research rates. The normal process is to
    1. visit the CAVE2 for a research demonstration [if you have not already],
    2. discuss your project and requirements with the the facility Manager [see the People page for contact details],
    3. agree to the standard research usage charges and provide cost centre and fund code information for billing purposes, and
    4. book the required CAVE2 time and/or programmer effort.

  • External researchers (e.g. other Australian universities) may access and use CAVE2 and MIVP expertise at adjusted current research rates, by negotiation with the facility Manager [see the People page for contact details]. The normal process follows that for Monash researchers [above], but affords Monash the opportunity to determine whether the proposed use conflicts with Monash's own research applications of the CAVE2.

  • Industry may access and use Monash CAVE2 and MIVP expertise at commercial rates. Discounts apply to companies that are formally partnered with Monash University. Potential industry users should seek a demonstration of the Monash CAVE2 via a Faculty-based Business Development Manager, via the central Monash Technology Research Platforms (MTRP) office, or directly via the facility Manager [see the People page for contact details].

CAVE2 is located in the New Horizons building at Monash, which also houses staff from the Engineering, IT, Science and MADA faculties, together with CSIRO staff. New Horizons is located at 20 Research Way, Monash Clayton Campus (previously the north ring road). Blue permit and casual paid parking is available in the N1 carpark immediately adjacent to New Horizons.
