CeLTS research seminar

March 9 2005

'Diversity and achievement - Promoting the success of 'non-traditional' students in higher education', presented by Kate Kirk, senior learning and teaching fellow, Manchester Metropolitan University.

When: Thursday 17 March, 12.30--1.45 pm
Where: Higher Education Development Unit, 700 Blackburn Rd, Clayton

Kate will examine an evaluation of the 'holistic' approach taken to support and develop the learning of first-year undergraduates on a Social and Community Studies Program. Key themes that emerged from this evaluation led to the development of a longitudinal study of ‘non-traditional' students as they progressed to graduation.

The purpose of the research was to raise the profile of successful, non-traditional entry students, to provide positive role models for future students and to influence access, recruitment, and learning and teaching strategies.
