CeLTS Seminar

25 May 2005

'The Role of Analogy in Science Education', by Dr Yvette Hancock, School of Physics and Materials Engineering and Dr Andrys Onsman, Higher Education Development Unit, CeLTS.

When: Thursday 26 May, 12.30-1.45 pm
Where: Higher Education Development Unit, Roseville Room, level 1, 700 Blackburn Road , Clayton

In this presentation the role of analogy in science education is examined. Analogy uses the learner's existing knowledge to generate new understandings in conceptually difficult areas of science. A fundamental requirement of the analogous process is the conscious maintenance of the essential integrity of the concept. We believe that by using such a methodology even the most complex scientific concepts can be taught effectively.
