Comparative perspectives on black economic empowerment conference

Call for papers. The closing date for proposals is 20 June 2005.

This conference invites academics, black economic empowerment practitioners, representatives of business, government, the media, sport and other interested parties to contribute their perspectives on the history, successes and failures of black economic empowerment, the structures of disempowerment it seeks to redress and its effectiveness in doing so.

The conference will address:

  • What is black economic empowerment?
  • Are its espoused aims effectively served by the policies intended to initiate them?
  • Is black economic empowerment working?
  • Who has benefited from black economic empowerment?
  • Has black economic empowerment delivered meaningful economic transformation?
  • What can the practitioners of black economic empowerment learn from comparative international models?

Proposals of no more than 100 words for papers of 20 minutes duration should be sent to BEE.Conference@arts.monash.edu
