General Sir John Monash Awards - applications open

These awards are intended by the General Sir John Monash Foundation to be the Australian equivalent of the Rhodes scholarship and are open to Australian citizens graduating/who have graduated from Australian universities.

They give an opportunity for postgraduate study (PhD/DPhil or professional Masters Degree) at a leading overseas university, commencing in 2006 and provide up to $150,000, Australian income tax exempt, over three years.

There is no upper age limit, but awards will generally favour those whose major contribution to their field and to the community lies ahead of them. In addition to academic excellence, the selection criteria require that applicants should have demonstrated leadership qualities and altruism through community service.

Applications close on 31 August 2005.
