Monash Commerce students will represent Australia at the International Final of the Global Management Challenge held in Macau.
The Global Management Challenge is an international competition that consists of a strategic management simulation, in which each team runs a company with the objective of finishing with the highest company share price on the simulated stock exchange.
Monash University's team 'Perseverance' is this year's winners of the National Final for the Global Management Challenge. The team of undergraduate students not only competed against 36 teams, but they had to endure a grueling and close final against six highly skilled teams to claim the national championship title.
Perseverance formed in 2009 through the University's Ambassador Program and comprises of Hayley Fang, Rui Ling, Linda Gao, Elena Dai and team captain Kan Ji Low.
The team are all fourth year students studying undergraduate degrees in Commerce. This is the second time the team has competed, last time finishing a close second.
“During the competition each team had to create a competitive market in which they compete with one another. Each team received background information about the company they had to run," Kan Ji Low, Perseverance team captain explained.
“We then had to outline the corporate strategy and launch it by making functional decisions in different areas of the company, such as marketing, production, human resources and finance,"
“Then we had to submit our decision to the Simulator via the internet. The Simulator then analysed and compared the team’s decisions and produced a Management Report for each team, showing the detailed results in financial and operational terms."
Kan Ji said the team will try their absolute best to be competitive in the international arena.
“We are looking forward to a worldly experience with the opportunity to meet and discuss ideas with people from other nations.
“This will be a unique experience for us and we will take every opportunity to make the most of our time in Macau,” Kan Ji said.
The Global Management Challenge is growing in popularity each year, especially within the Business faculties of Universities. Each year the winner of the challenge in Australia has been a undergraduate student team as opposed to a corporate team or a team of postgraduate students.
The challenge provides for both students and professionals an opportunity to test their skills amongst a high calibre of business minded people across the nation.
