Monash student aims for Winter Games glory

Anna Segal in action
Monash University arts/law student Anna Segal has been named one of the Snowsports Athletes of the Year.
The aspiring Winter Olympian jointly accepted the title with four other athletes at a gala event in Melbourne last weekend.
Anna is aiming to take part in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, and is anxiously awaiting a decision by the International Olympic Committee who will soon rule on whether her sport - slope style free skiing - will be included in the next games.
Earlier this year Anna travelled to Park City, Utah to compete at the Freestyle World Championships. Her gold medal performance at the competition cemented her nomination and status as one of the leading winter sports athletes of the 2010-11 season. It also gave Australia its fourth world championship for the year.
After being plagued with injuries the previous year, she has come back stronger than ever and is now gunning for the World Ski Invitational in Whistler, Canada.
Segal is also a nominee for Cosmopolitan’s Fun Fearless Female award, which celebrates women who are successful in their chosen industry.
