Educational leadership in the spotlight

The National Symposium for Japanese Language Education comes out of a project on the current state of Japanese language in Australian schools.
The importance of developing quality educational leaders will be highlighted at the next Monash University industry engagement Business Breakfast.
Victoria’s Secretary for Education, Richard Bolt, and Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor John Loughran, will present on the topic of New leadership practices: Scholarship, research and evidence.
Professor Loughran said better understanding and valuing teaching is crucial and the faculty takes its commitment to the teaching profession very seriously.
“Our research and teaching experience is central to the ways in which we work to support teachers and principals in their professional learning,” Professor Loughran said.
“It is critical we develop education leaders who are able to provide the best possible environment for their students to reach their potential.”
Following the addresses, Mr Bolt and Professor Loughran will be joined by a panel of leading Faculty of Education researchers, as well as a number of graduates from the faculty’s Master in School Leadership (MSL) suite of programs, to discuss the main challenges, opportunities and changes in school educational leadership that key decision makers face in today’s education system.
The expert panel will include Professor Peter Sullivan, Associate Professor Len Cairns, Dr Jennifer Rennie and Dr Philip Riley, as well as graduates and school leaders Cathie Sutton, Sue Graham and Mark Walker. The graduates will also share their experiences as school leaders and how the MSL degrees have influenced their leadership practices.
The Monash Business Breakfast will be held on Thursday 26 July 2012 starting at 7.15am at the Treasury Room, Park Hyatt, 1 Parliament Square, East Melbourne.
