Future of research discussed
The future of research in Australia will be discussed by leading academics and MP Adam Bandt at Research Week this month.
Federal Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt will join Monash University researchers to discuss the implications for research in Australia.
The panel discussion, which takes place on August 18, kicks off a weeklong event dedicated to research at the University.
Professor Pauline Nestor, Vice Provost (Research); Professor Ross Coppel; and Professor Moira O’Bryan, will join Mr Bandt on the panel. They will discuss strategies to improve research performance, research support, quality research outputs, and work-life balance.
Associate Professor Sharon Ricardo, Associate Dean – Graduate Research, said the event would help researchers come together to discuss where research is heading.
“It’s important when forming new research initiatives to have an understanding of where research is headed.”
“Awareness of the wider issues that face medical research is very important, and this panel discussion will discuss these aspects.”
Associate Professor Ricardo said it was important for students who were considering furthering their career in research to discuss the value of research and criteria for success.
Research Week is hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, and sees a raft of activities and presentations aimed at future PhD and early career researchers considering furthering their careers in research.
The panel discussion takes place from 6-8pm, South 1, Building 64 at Clayton Campus.
