Grant to boost learning and teaching innovation
Monash University has been awarded almost $500,000 in the latest and final ever round of Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT) innovation and development grant funding.
Professor Simone White and Associate Professor Michael Henderson, both from the Faculty of Education, have each been awarded a grant. While Professor Cristina Varsavsky from the Faculty of Science is a grant partner.
The funding announcement has seen the University secure over 22 per cent of the funding available, which is almost double the usual success rate of between nine and 12 per cent.
“Being awarded two out of the eight grants and being a partner on another is an inspiring achievement by Monash colleagues,” said Professor Darrell Evans, Vice-Provost (Learning and Teaching).
“Despite the imminent closure of the OLT, we must never stop pursuing innovation in our teaching practices and looking for opportunities to partner with our peers from other institutions,” he said.
These OLT grants support research, development and innovation in higher education with priority areas including academic standards, curriculum design and employability skills.
Professor White will lead a project looking at engaging and partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and community to improve student outcomes, while Associate Professor Henderson will lead a project on improving assessment feedback delivery.
Professor Varsavsky is a partner on a project investigating Work Integrated Learning in Science which will be led by Professor Elizabeth Johnson from Deakin University.
