Highest honour for Monash professor
A Monash University professor has received the Victorian Minister for Health’s highest honour in the 2014 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.
Professor Euan Wallace AM, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, was awarded the Minister’s Health Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony earlier this month.
The award recognises outstanding careers in health, achieved over a lifetime of service in the Victorian health system. The award is the highest honour for an individual, in recognition of their dedication, commitment and achievements in health.
Professor Wallace is the Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services at Monash Health, overseeing Victoria’s largest maternity service provided by Monash Women’s at Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Hospital, and Casey Hospital.
He has personally cared for 7,000 to 8,000 women during their pregnancies at Monash Health, as well as authoring more than 214 published research papers and holding numerous administrative portfolios across Monash Health, the Victorian Government and Monash University.
Professor Wallace has dedicated his professional life to excellence in obstetrics and improving the quality of care for women and babies.
Other award recipients from Monash included researchers working across a number of projects and teams in health services across Victoria. Some of those awarded include Dr Melissa Casey and Professor David Clarke, from the School of Clinical Sciences for their work leading the Agile Psychological Medicine Team at Monash Health. Dr Katherine Kibbey, School of Clinical Sciences, and Dr Helena Teede, School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine were also awarded for their work in diabetes.
