International businessman honoured

Dr Michael Andrew, former chairman of KPMG International has received an honorary doctorate from Monash University.

Chancellor of Monash University Dr Alan Finkel AM conferred the Doctor of Laws honoris causa on Dr Andrew in recognition of his extensive work in the business community.

Dr Andrew has not only held top level roles at KPMG and helped to shape the direction of the firm, but has also held many high-profile positions with international business councils and philanthropic foundations.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Ed Byrne AC believes Dr Andrew has displayed outstanding leadership in his field and a high level of dedication to business and community initiatives.

"The doctorate honours Dr Andrew’s success and many achievements in his career, recognising his incredible contribution to the business community both nationally and internationally,” Professor Byrne said.

Throughout his career, Dr Andrew has been involved with a number of professional partnerships including the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, the International Advisory Board for the Moscow International Financial Centre, and the Steering Committee of the United Nations Global Compact for the Environment.

He has also held board and committee positions with a number of organisations such as the Jawun Indigenous Corporate Partnerships which works to improve the lives of Indigenous communities around Australia, the Melbourne Community Foundation, the Business Working with Education foundation and the Olivia Newton John Cancer Foundation, to name a few.

Holding degrees in law and Commerce from the University of Melbourne, Dr Andrew is a qualified barrister and solicitor for the Supreme Court of Victoria and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
