The Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Right Honourable Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak delivered a keynote address to University students and staff as well as government and business representatives at the Robert Blackwood Hall at the Clayton campus, following his conferment of the Doctor of Letters.

In his address, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Australian academics for guiding young Malaysians through education and noted Monash University's work in assisting to build Malaysia into an educational hub through the Sunway campus.

The Prime Minister praised the success of the Monash University campus in Malaysia and said the many graduates are assisting in building Malaysia's future.

The Prime Minister also used the speech to comment on the ongoing strength of relations between Australia and Malaysia noting trade, defence relations dating back to World War II, education and tourism relationships.
