Mentoring student leaders

Deloitte, the world’s largest professional services organisation, will mentor Monash students in a new initiative, as part of the University’s Department of Accounting and Finance Leadership Program.
The joint initiative between Deloitte and the Department of Accounting and Finance provides a Monash student leadership group with the opportunity to meet regularly with senior Deloitte staff and will assist with the transition from university life to the workforce. It is designed to help students better understand workforce requirements, ensuring employers benefit from Monash graduates who are work-ready.
Professor Keryn Chalmers, Head of Accounting and Finance at Monash University said the program was a multi-session extra-curricula program for 40 selected students who have demonstrated potential leadership skills and strong academic performance.
“The students engage in a variety of workshops during the two-year program, addressing matters such as business etiquette, volunteering, managing one’s self, as well as workshops led by leading professional people. Students in the program have the opportunity to develop professional and personal skills in conjunction with their degree. These skills enhance their leadership potential in the workplace as well as benefit their university studies,” Professor Chalmers said.
Deloitte Partner Mark Stretton is the leader of Deloitte’s Monash University Campus team and has championed the Deloitte/Monash mentoring program.
“We know that mentoring is extremely important in terms of engagement of our people and for our people to be able to share experiences with Monash’s top accounting and finance students is a great opportunity,” Mr Stretton said.
