New options for students in China

Chinese students can now prepare for their Australian university experience in their home country following a new, exclusive agreement between Monash College and China's largest private education provider - the New Oriental Education and Technology Group.
Monash College, a subsidiary of Monash University, specialises in preparing students for a successful transition to Australian bachelor degree programs through the Monash University Foundation Year pathway program.
From 2013, the New Oriental Education and Technology Group will deliver the Foundation Year program in three of China's most populous cities: Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou. The move into China expands on the successful Monash College pathway programs which are delivered in Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
Chief Executive Officer of Monash College, Jo Mithen, said the arrangement would allow for Chinese students to be introduced to the differences in Australian education while still being close to home.
"The Monash College experience helps students from different backgrounds transition to the demands of university," Ms Mithen said.
"By offering this benefit to Chinese students who would prefer in-country preparation, we are making Australian tertiary education a real option for a broader range of people."
The Foundation Year in China will be run concurrently with the existing program in Australia, which is popular with Chinese students.
"We have identified two pools of students. There are those who are keen for the full Australian education experience from day one and choose to do their Foundation Year in Melbourne. There are also students who would prefer to remain with their families in China for a year while they begin the transition," Ms Mithen said.
"Now, thanks to our exclusive arrangement with New Oriental, we can cater to both these groups without any compromise in quality."
Monash College has been preparing international students for successful tertiary study for 20 years. It operates two Victorian campuses, one at Monash University Clayton and a new purpose-fit facility in the Melbourne CBD.
In addition to the Foundation Year, Monash College offers diplomas and English language courses.
