Monash Law School attracts star student

JD student Michael Chin
When he wanted to take the next step in his already impressive career, Cambridge scholar and international financial expert Michael Chin chose Monash.
Michael, who graduated with an MBA from the University of Cambridge and has worked in Canada, the US, China, France, the UK and Australia, is now studying a Juris Doctor (JD) at Monash University. He was recently recognised in his home country of Malaysia with a Special Distinguished Award by the King of Malaysia for his international achievements and contribution to society.
Michael said he chose Monash because of its outstanding reputation.
“The Monash JD program represents the best outward and international focus for law, which is adapted to Australia’s environment – a critical difference when compared to law schools in the UK and US,” Michael said.
“I sincerely believe that the standards of the Monash Law School is equivalent, if not better, than the major law schools in the US or UK.”
Michael said undertaking postgraduate study at Monash has given him many personal and professional opportunities he might not have otherwise experienced.
“Following a successful nomination for a Prime Minister's Australia Asia Award last year I delivered a speech to 350 guests at the Great Hall in Parliament House in Canberra and through that Award I am studying Chinese Laws at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where I am mentoring law students,” Michael said.
"Studying at Monash University has encouraged me to cultivate a spirit of humility, and a spirit of curiosity. The humility to learn from everyone and anyone; and the curiosity to learn and ask questions will lend immeasurable benefits to postgraduate studies and to life.”
For those thinking of enhancing their career with further study, or wanting to do postgraduate study, Monash University is holding its Postgraduate Expo next week. All faculties including the Monash University Institute of Graduate Research will be represented at this event.
The Postgraduate Expo will be held at BMW Edge, Federation Square, Flinders Street, Melbourne, on Tuesday 28 May between 4 – 7pm.
