Monash Sport hosts Tigers

Richmond Tigers superstar Jack Riewoldt trained strongly at Monash University’s Clayton campus this week when Monash Sport hosted the Richmond Football Club for two full days of training.
The Tigers made full use of Monash Sport’s facilities, beginning Monday morning in the seminar room where coach Damien Hardwick dissected vision of the Tigers’ narrow first round loss to Carlton.
Later in the day, the players were put through their paces, running though various drills on the Clayton campus football oval.
On Wednesday the Tigers returned to Monash, again beginning the day in the seminar room to work on match strategy, before heading back out on to the oval.
There was certainly a buzz on the track as the Sherrin moved smoothly from one side of the ground to the other. Trent Cotchin looked impressive with ball in hand, captain Chris Newman trained solidly, while Jack Riewoldt was snapping goals from all angles.
Richmond Football Operations Manager Ross Monaghan said that the Tigers have a good relationship with Monash.
“We’ve developed a strong association with Monash University and the players really enjoy using the great facilities for training. The staff in the sports complex are always really helpful and on this occasion the ground staff did a terrific job in turning the oval from a cricket ground one day, into a football ground the next,” said Mr Monaghan.
Riewoldt will be squaring off against his cousin Nick tonight, as the Tigers take on the 2010 Grand Finalists St Kilda at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
