Monash student looking to Olympics

Elite triathlete Jamie Huggett has his sights set on the 2012 Olympics
Jamie Huggett is not your average Bachelor of Sport Promotion and Event Management student. At 20 years of age he is an elite athelete, and one of Australia's brightest prospects in the sport of triathlon.
After eighteen months of sustained success in events across the world, Jamie has earned an AIS scholarship and a place in the six-person Olympic shadow triathlon squad, which will allow him to vie for a place in the three-person team that will go to London and compete in the 2012 Games.
Jamie has also been tackling local races. The 2011 Kinloch ITU Sprint Triathlon Oceania Cup was a highlight; he landed the third fastest finishing time of just over an hour.
In mid February, Jamie took part in the Australian National Elite Sprint Triathlon Championships in Geelong.
“I tried to break away there and got away for a lot of the ride on my own. I had a 20 second buffer into the transition but unfortunately spent all my legs on the bike and finished quite a way down the order,” Jamie said.
Disappointed with his performance, Jamie was determined to achieve a better result at the 2011 Wellington OTU Triathlon Oceania Championships. He finished in seventeenth place.
Jamie will continue to take on international races in the furture. He is off to Japan this month for the Ishigaki World Cup.
