Monash University staff recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours

Monash University professionals have been recognised for their extraordinary contributions to Australian communities in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Among the 376 Australians who were recognised for the honorary list is Professor Graeme Davison who was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) for his distinguished service to the community as a leading scholar and commentator on Australian urban history.

Professor Davison, from the School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies, has authored a number of books on Australia’s past and will release a book on the history of Monash in 2012.

The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University was acknowledged on this significant occasion, showcasing the leading role the University plays in Australian medical research.

In a list dominated by men, Professor of Medicine, Suzanne Crowe was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia medal (AM) for her service to medical research in the area of HIV/AIDS medicine and infectious diseases as an academic, clinician and researcher.

Also recognised for their outstanding contribution to medical research was Mr Alastair Lucas, Member, Dean’s Advisory Board and Professor Jeffrey Rosenfeld, Department of Surgery, Alfred Hospital who received Member of the Order of Australia medals.
