The Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) has named Professor Jennie Ponsford, School of Psychological Sciences, as Supervisor of the Year.

On November 26, around 60 postgraduates and supervisors gathered in anticipation of the announcement of the 2014 winner.

The MPA Supervisor of the Year award was created to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in research supervision practice and has been presented annually since 1992.

The MPA award is truly a decision of the postgraduate community, as supervisors are nominated by their postgraduate students.

Before announcing the winner, Gary Bonar, from the MPA Executive Committee, thanked the postgraduates who had taken the time and effort to acknowledge the fantastic work done by their supervisors.

One student said how wonderful it was for the MPA to provide the opportunity for postgraduates to publicly express gratitude to their supervisors.

Professor Ponsford was genuinely surprised to be declared the winner, as one of the many postgraduates who nominated her, had conspired with the MPA to keep the news a secret.

“I was extremely proud to supervise such high quality and hard-working students who have to combine a considerable amount of coursework and clinical placements with the production of a doctoral thesis,” she said.

The MPA committee and staff would like to congratulate and thank Professor Ponsford and all the nominated supervisors for the first-class supervision they provide to postgraduates.
