Monash will be making waves at the Australian University Championships surfing competition later this month.

The event, which will be held at Cabarita Beach NSW from 27-29 June, will see competitors from universities all over Australia congregate on the famous break to compete for podium places and bragging rights.

TeamMONASH will field a team of five men and two women to compete in the longboard, shortboard and bodyboarding events.

The team will be captained by surfing veteran Dan Norrie who is looking to improve upon the team’s seventh place finish last year.

Although most of the members on the team have almost no competition experience, Dan is confident that they can improve on last year’s results.

The team to beat will be from The University of Western Australia which took out the 2010 championship.

Event organiser Dave Graham is preparing for what will be an exciting competition.

“The surfers travel from all over Australia to compete, they have trained hard for this and it is a chance for them to compete against a high standard and also have some fun,” he said.

“Above all, it will be a fun event for competitors and spectators alike.”
