TeamMONASH™ decends on Latrobe Valley

TeamMONASH™ will be a force to be reckoned with at the upcoming Southern University Games (SUG), which will draw over 1500 university and TAFE students to the Gippsland region.
With athletes arriving from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania to compete in the 16 sports on offer, TeamMONASH™ will have over 150 students participating in the week's events.
Sports Programs Leader Matthew Sheldon-Collins, from Monash Sport, said TeamMONASH™ has had a presence at the SUG since it first began.
“The SUG is a fantastic internal competition and we love giving our students the opportunity to represent Monash,” Mr Sheldon-Collins said.
“The students take great pride donning the TeamMONASH™ gear and playing for their university. They get a real buzz from it, and it’s great to watch.”
TeamMONASH™ will be competing in the men’s AFL, men’s futsal (indoor soccer), men and women’s hockey, men and women’s tennis, mixed ultimate Frisbee and cheerleading. TeamMONASH™ also has four mixed teams competing in the touch rugby games.
The 2012 SUG Opening Ceremony will provide an opportunity for students, officials and local residents to welcome the Games to Latrobe City.
“It’s a great area for the SUG, with TeamMONASH™ having a home base at the Gippsland campus. The netball and hockey games will be hosted at the Latrobe Leisure Centre, which is located on our campus,” Mr Sheldon-Collins said.
The SUG will be held from 1-5 July at a variety of sporting facilities and locations throughout the Latrobe Valley. For a full sport schedule, or further information visit the Australian University Games website.
