Two PhD candidates have been awarded prestigious Victorian India Doctoral Scholarships (VIDS) to undertake their PhD studies at Monash University.
Raj Kumar Shukla and Dhanasekaran Sakthivel are among ten top-ranked Indian students awarded the scholarships by the Australia India Institute on behalf of the Victorian Government.
VIDS are awarded to high-achieving Indian students, allowing them to complete their doctoral studies with top researchers and supervisors, and use cuttingedge research infrastructure and facilities at Victorian Universities. The scholarships cover living expenses and tuition fees for the duration of the recipients' studies.
Professor Rod Devenish, Academic Director of the Monash University Institute of Graduate Research, said the University prided itself on having an international approach to its education and research activities, and so was pleased to support this Victorian Government initiative.
“Monash is pleased to provide research opportunities for two of the best and brightest Indian scholars through the VIDS pogram," Professor Devenish said.
“It is a privilege to have two such accomplished scholars joining our university and adding to our reputation for research excellence."
Mr Shukla will undertake research into dry powder formulation for pulmonary delivery of peptides through the Department of Pharmaceutics at the Parkville campus, while Mr Sakthivel will study immune response to vaccine adjuvants at the Gippsland School of Applied Science and Engineering.
The scholarships were awarded to the successful candidates in Mumbai by the Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, the Hon Louise Asher MLA, during a recent Victorian Government Trade Mission to India.
VIDS are designed to support research that contributes to global knowledge while also helping build closer partnerships between India and Australia.
