Volleyroos hop into Monash on road to London

The Australian men’s indoor volleyball team, the Volleyroos, will make one of their last stops on home-soil ahead of the Olympic Games when they visit Monash University tomorrow.
The newly qualified Olympians will use the Monash Health and Fitness Centre for a post-match recovery session tomorrow following a friendly exhibition match in Melbourne this evening.
The 14-strong squad will utilise vital strengthening and conditioning equipment at the Monash Clayton facility to maintain their physical condition before departing to Europe for a series of warm up games prior to London.
Sports Program Leader at Monash University, Michael Jones, said Monash Sport was pleased to support the team in their quest to London by providing access to the first-rate facility.
“The Monash sports centre will be equipped with the latest equipment and gym space and we look forward to hosting the Olympic-bound Volleyroos at this first-rate facility,” Mr Jones said.
“Supporting the Australian team reinforces Monash Sport’s commitment to enhancing health and fitness at the University and in the wider community.”
The sports centre has a suit of recently up-graded activities including the newly retiled Doug Ellis Swimming Pool, and a refurbished fitness centre.
“Recent upgrades to enhance facilities will ensure Monash Sport remains at the centre of health and active lifestyles and we encourage members of the community to come and explore these improved areas and other facilities available,” Mr Jones said.
It's the second time Australia has qualified for the men's volleyball competition at an Olympics following the 2004 Athens Games, excluding Sydney in 2000 when as hosts they were given a free pass.
