Biography

Michael works in the School of Mathematical Sciences in the Faculty of Science at Monash University as an Associate Professor.

Research interests

 

  • High-Reynolds-number flows and boundary-layer theory, including flow separation;
  • Geophysical fluid dynamics on an f- and beta-plane, especially at small Ekman numbers;
  • Diffusion-driven flows in a viscous stratified fluid;
  • Computational fluid dynamics.

 

Supervision interests

If you are interested in undertaking studies towards a PhD under my supervision, some possible areas for research projects might include:

  • The dynamics of rotating fluids - especially for geophysical applications on an f- and beta-plane;
  • High-Reynolds-number flows, boundary-layer theory and flow separation;
  • Diffusion-driven flows in a viscous stratified fluid;
  • Singular perturbation theory and asymptotic expansions;
  • Computational fluid dynamics - mostly based on careful finite-difference and/or PS approximation, as opposed to using packages.
