The National Virtual School Of Emerging Sciences Project – NVSES

The NVSES was a collaborative project between Monash University, the John Monash Science School, Pearson Australia and Cisco funded by the Australian Government Department of Education through the Broadband Enabled Education and Skills Services initiative for two years (2013-2014).

This ambitious project developed four (8 week) emerging science units in the areas of Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Astrophysics and Quantum physics aimed at engaging passionate year 10 students from 46 schools from around Australia in the study of cutting edge science. Students connected online (in real time) using Cisco WebEx teleconferencing technology in classes of up to 40 students for one hour twice a week. In the life of the project more than 429 students enrolled in at least one unit, 329 students successfully completed at least one subject and 72 students successfully completed more than one unit of study. An information website provides details about the project, the curriculum and the methods of its implementation.
