School of Geosciences Postgraduate Studies coordinator: Assoc Prof Roberto Weinberg
The School of Geosciences offers an opportunity to build on the knowledge and experience gained during your Honours or MSc degree and professional experience through its PhD and MSc research programs. The school is consistently rated as one of the most successful Geoscience departments in Australia, and has a large, diverse, and vibrant research community of academic staff, research staff, and postgraduate students.
In particular, the School of Geosciences has a large and dynamic postgraduate community with students drawn from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. This creates a productive scientific environment as well as an active social atmosphere. Postgraduate students in the school are researching into topics that cover the entire spectrum of geosciences, and there is an emphasis on teamwork and interdisciplinary research. We also have active collaborations with other universities within Australia and overseas, industry, and state and federal government agencies (such as CSIRO, Geoscience Australia, and the State Surveys).
Researchers at Monash have access to an enviable range of analytical and technical equipment for geochemical analyses of rocks, minerals and waters, stable and radiogenic isotopes, geophysical measurements, fieldwork, and sample collection and preparation. We also have access to the Australian Synchrotron (which is located at Monash).
The university has a comprehensive support network for the diverse needs of both domestic and international students, including scholarships for tuition and living expenses. Graduates of Monash University have a global reputation as independent learners, innovators and leaders, and so are widely sought after by Australian and international employers.
