Using fonts

Typography can only be controlled to a limited degree on the web. Fonts will be displayed on the user's machine only if they have them installed. Because of this, web fonts should be limited to commonly installed fonts such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Helvetica.

Use of typography on Monash websites

  • All fonts for Monash University websites are handled by the centrally maintained web stylesheets used in the approved web templates.
  • Monash uses the sans-serif font family (Helvetica, Arial).
  • With the exception of the text that comprises the Monash logo, do not use images of text to present a particular font to users.

For information on typography for Monash print publications, see Brand Guidelines (staff only).
