Take a musical lunch break

23

The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music presents its annual Lunchtime Concert Series, giving staff, students and the wider Monash community the opportunity to enjoy a musical lunch break.

Diversity and integration of traditional, multicultural and contemporary styles of music performance are all presented at various performances throughout the year.

While 2014 is drawing to a close, there are still two opportunities to experience this enjoyable way to spend a lunch break.

‘World Music – Jazz Vocal Ensemble’, a jazz vocal ensemble directed by Jacqueline Galwer from the Monash Vocal Ensemble, will explore pieces from across a broad spectrum of jazz, world music, African rhythm, Brazilian influences and contemporary compositions, with a particular emphasis on performing works by local and Australian composers.

‘Jazz Guitar Ensemble – Classical Guitar Ensemble’ will be performed by the Monash Classical and Jazz Guitar Ensembles under the direction of guitarists Geoffrey Morris and Stephen Magnusson. They will perform an eclectic collection of pieces drawing on diverse styles including classical, jazz, and pop, with a number of original compositions by the ensemble members.

The concerts are held every Thursday during semester from 1.10pm for approximately 40 minutes. The venue is the Music Auditorium, Room G36, Building 68, Clayton campus. Admission is $5 at the door.

‘World Music – Jazz Vocal Ensemble’ will take place on Thursday 16 October. Further information is available online.

‘Jazz Guitar Ensemble – Classical Guitar Ensemble’ will take place on Thursday 23 October and also has further details available online.
