Monash participated in the Australia Future Unlimited Middle East North Africa (MENA) 2015 Higher Education Mission in April.
The trade mission, officiated by the Australian Minister for Trade and Investment, the Hon Andrew Robb AO MP, highlighted the expertise of the Australian Education and Training sector in the MENA region, and enabled the Monash delegation to engage with partners, government and students across the region.
As part of the mission, Monash had a strong presence at the International Exhibition and Conference on Higher Education (IECHE) 2015, held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
With more than 3,800 participants and 189,690 attendees, IECHE 2015 was the largest annual higher education exhibition in Saudi Arabia. The Victorian Government provided a Study Melbourne booth enabling an exclusive opportunity for Victorian providers to meet with prospective students.
Monash Associate President for Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia (MENACA) and Director of MENACA Engagement (Global Engagement) within the Office of the DVC (Global Engagement), Dr Nizar Farjou, was the moderator for the Primary Healthcare Session at the Education and Health forum at the IECHE 2015. The forum involved UAE academics and representatives of government authorities in the healthcare industry including Dubai Health Authority and the Dubai Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Health Service Company and Dubai Healthcare City.
“The objective of the forum was to inspire discussion and to create opportunities for cooperation and knowledge sharing. It is important to showcase Australian capabilities and expertise relevant to the region“, Dr Farjou said.
As part of the Australia Future Unlimited MENA 2015, Monash also initiated a ceremonial signing of an agreement with University of Dammam, honouring its long standing relationship with the institution. Monash is supporting the modernisation and development of the Medical Curriculum at the University of Dammam.
